Medic Update Got You Feeling Blue?

Did the Medic Update Leave You Feeling Dizzy?

The Medic Update released in August 2018 is still leaving its impact on many sites. As with any update, there were winners and losers. While you cannot control what Google does, taking a serious look at your site can help you recover from the Medic Update along with helping you prepare your site for other core algorithm updates.

Optimize for Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness

The first step is to optimize your site to prove that you are an expert in your field who is able to talk authoritatively in your field and that your customers can trust you. Make sure that your content provides a comprehensive view of your subject. Create “about us” pages that are filled with information proving you are a leader in your industry. Use links to point customers to other in-depth information that will be useful to them.

Create Customer-focused Pages

While you will eventually need to do all of your website’s pages, put your first focus on money and health content as these were the hardest hit. Make sure that your pages use disclaimers if necessary. Support all your facts with data from reliable sources. Create off-site links proving that you are an authority in your field.

Provide a Great User Experience

While it would appear that Google does not care how long your content is as long as you cover the subject, there are other elements you need to focus on including using high-quality images along with structuring content in tables, bulleted lists and other easy-to-understand formats. Use a mobile-friendly design that puts the most important elements of the page including at least one call-to-action above the fold.
